Hillam Architects announces new leadership structure

Hillam Architects announces leadership changes marking a transformational shift in growth and strategic direction.

Hillam Architects is preparing for the future with the appointment of Brett Davis as Chief Executive Officer, bringing a formidable track record in guiding design-led organisations through transformational growth both in Western Australia and nationally. Current leader and founder, David Hillam (FRAIA) will continue as Design Lead and will focus on Strategy and Business Development.

Brett Davis provides extensive leadership experience at a national level across complex projects, with a strong commitment to employee development and culture.

David Hillam announced the appointment today: “I am extraordinarily proud of our achievements, from a self-starting private practice to the studio it is today. We have been designing, developing and realising buildings that help guide what is possible in Australia’s built environment, particularly in the multi-residential and mixed-use sector for the last 30 years.

“For the next phase of our development we will focus on architectural excellence, ensuring Hillam Architects maintains its position in delivering exemplary design outcomes.”

Brett Davis’s previous executive leadership roles at Wood & Grieve and later at Stantec has given him excellent exposure to complex public and private sector projects spanning sport and recreation, multi-residential, health, retail and education. He joined the Wood & Grieve Board in 2006 and assisted in Wood & Grieves’ acquisition by Stantec in 2019, remaining as Regional Director, Buildings Australia.  Key major complex projects he assisted in delivering include Optus Stadium, WA Museum Boola Bardip and Elizabeth Quay.

“Brett is respected for both his technical and practical understanding of the design and construction of projects and his equal commitment to fostering a high performing values driven team culture,” said Hillam.

“Having spent almost 30 years in the property industry as a design professional, I really am excited to take on this new challenge of assisting David and the Hillam team to expand our horizons and grow the offering of our services,” said Davis.

“For the last six years I led a large national team through significant transformational change, and I am very much looking forward to bringing these skills to the Hillam practice as we grow and diversify the team” he added.

With the appointment of Brett Davis, Hillam Architects is both strengthening its core offering of high-quality design under the leadership of David Hillam while preparing the studio for new opportunities and new ways of working in a fast-changing industry.
