Brigitte Braun, a passionate promoter of local artists, followed the same philosophy when commissioning a contemporary new gallery, Artplace.
It was a bold move for Brigitte, moving an established, larger Claremont art gallery into Perth’s inner-city.
The compact Northbridge site proved an interesting challenge for both the client and the architect.
To compensate for this, the ground floor gallery space enjoys large volumes and high ceilings to create maximum hanging space. Tasmanian oak staircases and strategically-placed voids lead to the two upper-levels of residential accommodation.
The front entry glazing acts as a beacon drawing passers-by to the clean-lined gallery space and inviting them to view the works inside.
